LOL ignore the AWFUL left hand plz. i referenced it from a photo of my hand but....yeah. i can't draw hands very well :I i don't draw people much
SO, where to start. About a month ago i watched the movie 'The Cove' and it really, really broke my heart. ESPECIALLY this scene/photo [link] which the picture is kinda based around ^^
This picture it supposed to show how the most aweful things are happening to those wonderful animals that people love, right under there noses and they have NO idea...
i know she looks a little relaxed to be sat above a blood red sea but that's not the point.
It was a collab with my wonderful friend *Alephron So please fav here:
About the film and captive dolphins The film is a documentary about a cove in Japan where whole pods of dolphins are herded into this cove where they are brutally slaughtered, and sold as meat. Read more here [link]
But this is also very dangerous to people as this meat has very high mercury content, which is the most toxic, non-radio-active element on the planet. How does mercury enter the food chain? [link]
They also sell bottlenose dolphins if they get them as they can sell for high amounts to dolphinariumns. (i think that's the right word) and i think there are a few dolphinariums that buy their dolphins from this dolphin slaughter house. which means that technically everyone who visits them is supporting this terrible issue, even though they're visiting for their love of these beautiful creatures. But is keeping animals in that way, that are almost as intelligent as us, the right thing to do? Not really. [link]
I have seen dolphins perform once and i don't think i'll ever go again ^^'
A wild dolphin can live for up to 45-50 years yet in captivity over half die in the first two years due to stress, disease and pollution in their tanks.
I think that if we were ever to communicate with another animal, it would be dolphins first. and whaling/killing dolphins will just lower that chances of communicating and learning more about this wonderful animal.
But that's the global issue, the local issue is the fact that this awful thing had been happening for years and once this movie came out the people were only just starting to know? and even after a year, still not everyone knows. Plus that the mercury packed meat is very dangerous for those who eat it, which is not good at all for the communities.
Anyway, i'm not sure what's happening now as this was released last year, but letting people know about it does no harm and it's really the local people who can really put a stop to it. It would be great if any of you have any japanese friends and could perhaps ask them if they've seen it??
i just wanted to share that with you through a drawing ^^
Thank you so much for reading, all information is either from the film or the websites.
it's just that things like this seems to go out and everyone's hyped ad then they just... fade. and i want to keep it out there and known so that we don't allow something like it to ever happen again. <3

Please see if theres anything you can do, i am going to donate quite a bit of commission money i've earned towards supporting the people who made the film.
